Working through the issues that led to addiction and the impacts of that addiction can cause tension and anxiety. Oftentimes, healing is stressful, but it is a necessary process in order to get better and live a healthy and happy life free from substance abuse.

Background of Reiki

Reiki is a Japanese technique that focuses on reducing stress while promoting relaxation and healing. This is a form of holistic healing or energy healing that centers around life force energy. The concept is that if a person has a low life force energy they are more susceptible to feeling stressed or sick. However, a person with a powerful or high life force energy can transfer some of that energy to another person in need. This increased energy will enable the recipient to heal themselves from within.

During a Reiki session, a trained specialist will use their hands to lightly touch the patient in order to transfer their life force energy. The objective is to increase the life force energy of the patient so they can enjoy a higher quality of life and are better equipped to move forward with their addiction recovery.

After completing a Reiki session, patients typically report:

  • Feelings of deep relaxation
  • Feelings of peace
  • A greater sense of security
  • Improved wellbeing
  • A decrease in discomfort and other symptoms of withdrawal

How Reiki Can Benefit Addiction Recovery

Reiki helps people feel energized and motivated and these are key traits to getting healthy and staying healthy. Addiction treatment is hard and emotionally draining. Losing focus or feeling incredibly stressed can make treatment even more challenging. Individuals attending inpatient treatment are also at a crossroads. They are still somewhat new to recovery, they may still be experiencing cravings and withdrawal symptoms which are all intense feelings. At the same time, they are still developing the skills necessary to cope with all of these new feelings.

Anything that can safely and effectively reduce or eliminate stress, anxiety, panic, or any of the other feelings an individual may be experiencing is extremely beneficial. All of these negative feelings can hold back an individual working towards sobriety. Reiki is one method that can build up an individual so they feel their best and have the strength, energy, and motivation to become the best version of themselves.
