Is COVID-19 Shutting Down Drug Treatment Centers?

We are living in truly unprecedented times, there is no question about that. As we attempt to navigate the “new normal” and adjust to an entirely new way of doing things, we are being faced with a certain level of uncertainty on a day to day basis. Many businesses have been forced to adapt to new COVID-19 guidelines, implementing social distancing protocols, and making sure that all of their patrons are wearing face coverings. Some businesses, sadly, have had to shut down entirely. Many have re-opened since the initial quarantine in March, but many small businesses were not successfully able to weather the storm. It has been a difficult and trying time for all of us.

Drug Treatment is Available During the Pandemic

Essential businesses, however, have remained open through it all, continuing to serve those who need a specific service. Some examples of essential businesses include grocery stores and supermarkets, pharmacies, convenience stores, gas stations, auto-repair shops, veterinary clinics, pet stores, banks, post offices, some educational institutions that have been facilitating distanced learning and healthcare operations. Drug treatment centers like Recreate Life Counseling are considered essential businesses, seeing as they require a vital service that often means the difference between life and death.

Drug Rehab COVID-19 Precautions and Safety Measures

We continue to serve men and women of all ages as we take all necessary safety precautions. Some of the safety precautions we have been actively taking to ensure the health and safety of our clients include:

  • Thorough medical assessments before admission and during the stay. Before admitting an individual to our program, we conduct a thorough medical screening – one that includes a COVID test. Because it is often difficult to maintain social distancing in intimate group settings, we want to ensure that all of our clients are COVID-free before they are admitted to our recovery program. We also want to ensure that everyone stays healthy. For this reason, we check temperatures daily, and if clients experience any potentially COVID-relate symptoms we separate them from the group until they have another test come back negative.
  • Constant sanitization. We thoroughly disinfect all common surface areas and make sure that our facility stays clean and sanitized. We have a professional cleaning crew come through frequently, making sure everything is as clean and safe as possible.
  • Social distancing and mask-wearing. While maintaining 6 feet of distance can be difficult in a residential rehabilitation setting, our very small group sizes ensure that clients are not being exposed to large groups of people. We still offer 12 step immersion, but we have made several changes to the way we conduct on-site 12 step meetings. If a speaker comes to our facility to lead a meeting, he or she wears a mask for the duration of his or her stay.
