What Drug Rehab Programs Are Covered By NYSHIP Insurance?

Inpatient Rehab Services

Prescription medications: Drugs dispensed by an approved facility for residential or partial hospitalization are covered, however, take-home medications for substance abuse are not covered.

Inpatient Psychiatric Consultation: Once approved by the program administrator, you will receive coverage for services recommended by your physician as medical necessities, so long as you are in the medical unit of a hospital.

Partial Hospitalization Program: Substance abuse treatment obtained at an NYSHIP drug rehab facility are covered.

Outpatient Rehab Services

The following outpatient services are covered by your NYSHIP insurance:

Family counseling sessions: Your Empire plan provides coverage for up to 20 family counseling sessions per a calendar year.

Outpatient rehab programs: NYSHIP covers your outpatient substance abuse treatment costs, either fully or partially.

Emergency services: Any emergency service where you were not admitted into inpatient rehab is viewed as an outpatient service, and is therefore covered.

Ambulance services: NYSHIP covers ambulance services used to transport you to the closest facility or hospital during an emergency caused by your addiction. As long as the ambulance service is within its network, your benefits will be covered.
